A Pap smear is one of the most important screenings for long-term women’s health. At Healing Well Center + Med Spa Bar, we perform this test with exceptional care, privacy, and a patient-first approach that prioritizes comfort and clear communication at every step.

Our experienced providers ensure the process is gentle, quick, and respectful—helping you feel confident and supported throughout your wellness journey.

What Is a Pap Smear?

A Pap smear (also called a Pap test) is a simple, preventive screening that checks for abnormal cervical cells that could develop into cervical cancer. When caught early, nearly all cervical changes are treatable—making this one of the most valuable tests for women of all ages.

Who Needs a Pap Smear?

General guidelines recommend a Pap smear for:

  • Women ages 21–65
  • Every 3 years, or more frequently if recommended
  • More often if you have abnormal past results, HPV, immune concerns, or other risk factors

Your provider at Healing Well Center + Med Spa Bar will help personalize your screening schedule based on your history and health goals.

What Happens During a Pap Smear?

Your visit is designed to be calm, quick, and comfortable.

1. Provider Consultation

We begin with a private conversation about your cycle, past screenings, symptoms, sexual health, and any questions you may have.

2. Gentle Pelvic Exam

During the exam:

  • A small speculum is inserted to gently open the vaginal canal
  • Your provider takes a tiny sample of cervical cells using a soft brush
  • The process takes less than a minute

Most patients describe it as mild pressure—not painful.

3. Lab Processing & Results

Your sample is sent to a specialized lab to check for:

  • Abnormal cervical cells
  • Precancerous changes
  • HPV (if co-testing is ordered)

Your provider will review the results with you and create a personalized plan if any follow-up is needed

  • HPV testing (often age 30+)
  • STD/STI testing
  • Pelvic exam
  • Urine testing
  • Hormone labs (if cycle or menopause symptoms are present)

We tailor each visit to your needs—never a one-size-fits-all approach.

Signs You May Need a Sooner Pap Smear

Schedule an earlier screening if you have:

  • Irregular bleeding
  • Post-menopausal bleeding
  • Pelvic pain
  • Abnormal discharge
  • History of abnormal Pap results
